In this movie Steven Spielberg gets back to his roots with a story that is not only original but thoroughly entertaining at all times. The movie begins with “Vicky” who is an important businessman in the steel industry. Like most people of his age Vicky is searching for love, but once he finds it he isn’t one to forget about his business. He must travel to Russia quite often, and this takes him away from his wife. When he is not with her, she gets lonely and begins looking for someone new to comfort her. She soon gets involved with another man who may provide Vicky more than just random moments of happiness. They begin falling in love and making plans to leave Vicky for good. But things do not go as smoothly as they had hoped that they would. Vicky learns that his wife was cheating on him and that that he needs to be the one to leave her. The two part ways and now Vicky must find a new wife. The world of love is shown in this movie through the eyes of one man who loves what he does, but has a hard time being alone. This movie offers an unusual take on love, but also a unique underlying message about family and commitment.
The film was nominated by the Art Directors Guild for its best art direction awards for 1996, but didn’t win any of them.
The film was also nominated for a Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actress (Mariel Hemingway). Though it wasn’t a success at the box office, the film did get some notice on the movie circuit.
